Project Life - Day 40- I Am Life

I am Growth. Growth is Life. One of my favorite places to go on a shoot expedition is around St. George Island in Florida. You can take an excursion out to one of the non-peopled islands and spend the day. Great fun especially with family to just .. well ... be. One of Connor's favorite things is to climb the natural dunes. I have captured him doing so many times through the years. It wasn't until taking this photo that I realized just how much youth he has lived and is now entering the a time of finding out who he really is. Connor is Life. Life is Personal Growth.

Project Life - Day 38- I Am Life

I am Tanner. Tanner is Life.  One of the things that presented me with the greatest amount of "huh?" during the Greek phototrek was the diametrically opposed visual happenings. I watched Tanner sell his leather goods for the better part of an hour. Brisk business and he is, by nature I am sure, no nonsense. But here is where it gets confusing. He's selling his wares against a backdrop of 5000 year old ruins. I'm sure he isn't the first tanner to sell in this spot - and likely not the last. Customers quibble over drachmas and he quibbles back. Thing is, the stones know that whatever the customer buys is a shallow material thing and shall not be long remembered. But this place, that stone will be forever there. Tanner is Life. Life is dichotomy.

Project Life - Day 35- I Am Life

This is my father. Fathers are Life. I've intentionally avoided posting anything family related for a variety of reasons. Not the least of which is privacy and an underlying uncomfortableness about it. Sometimes it's easy as a photographer to hide behind the lens, expose life from a safe and detached distance. But this is ProjectLife and this is my father. Life is Connected.

Project Life - Day 33- I Am Life

This is Libby. Libby is Life. Here is what you need to know of Libby: She is one of 6 (condolences to her mother). She is also the youngest of the six. Not often do I choose portrait sittings as Project Life subjects but this beautiful girl was so unerringly trusting. We worked for about an hour; her mom took care of running the house for hubby and other 5 kids (again, condolences) and not once did Libby cry or shy away. I adore this one. This is Libby. Life is Trusting.

Project Life - Day 32 - I Am Life

This is Syd. Syd is Life. There is a familiar photographers quote that says we don't take pics of our subjects but of ourselves. During Syd's session I kept trying to figure out who she is. Younger daughter, sister, soccer pro, budding young woman ... the answers never came clear. It was then I figured out that I wrestle (as I am sure all of us do) with those same question. I asked her to peek inside the window knowing what I was chasing theme-wise. I wonder what she saw? This is Syd. Introspection is Life.

Project Life - Day 31 - I Am Life

I am Blima. I am Life. I met Blima while in Sinaloa.  Bright, beautiful and outgoing, Blima had little idea of what the world held for her outside of that drug-war ridden state. This image was snapped as Minister Runyon was explaining that he learned a lot about the area from television. Yes, the next question was "que television?" This is Blima. Life is Wonder.

About This Blog

Project Life is an attempt to inspire, to recognize and celebrate the essential commonality of all persons. Photography doesn't always depict how we really are, but more how the photographer views us. This is my view.
